"Single Story" (journal #1)
A time that I have forced a single story upon another person was when I first met this African girl and me and my friend talked about her because she couldn't understand English and she couldn't speak English , The girl got really angry and stormed off into her home . As I reflect back on that time that I laughed at her it I see that it was wrong because I wouldn't want anyone laughing at me because I can't speak a certain language or do something . So I went and told the girl that lived in my neighborhood that I was sorry and how my behavior was so disrespectful , So now we're friends .
Life of a Immigrant (Journal #2)
As I walk arrive in the United States of America and get off the plane , I'm feeling very uneasy I'm really excited to be here but I don't understand any English and I doubt that the people at the Airport will understand me when i'm trying to find my mother that's picking me up. My mother left me about a year ago in my village located in Africa for a better life and now i'm finally old enough to travel here to be with my beautiful mother and her husband. As i'm walking inside the Airport I see nothing but people rushing around trying to find their flight I wanted to ask people where to go so bad until I finally saw my mom and rushed full speed towards her with a big happy smile on my face.
9 - week course reflection
- My single most important take-away from this class would be stereotyping because that subject was the most interesting to me , and also because it made me realize that we Americans do it everyday and it's not right.
- My greatest success in this class so far are some of the classwork and projects
- My greatest challenges have been the common assessments
- Yes , because I have a 86% which is almost a A+ I just need to maintain it .
- Study more , Work harder , And do better on the common assessments.
